What is Swimmer’s Ear?

Affecting the outer ear, swimmer’s ear (also called acute otitis externa) is a painful condition resulting from inflammation, irritation, or infection. These symptoms often occur after water gets trapped in your ear (i.e. after swimming or bathing), creating a moist environment that aids bacterial growth.

Is Swimmer's Ear always caused by too much water in the ear?

No. Putting fingers, cotton swabs or other objects in your ears also can lead to swimmer's ear by damaging the thin layer of skin lining your ear canal.

Can Swimmer’s Ear be prevented?

You can wear earplugs to help prevent swimmer’s ear but some find those to be uncomfortable and a nuisance. After you shower or swim, apply Serotis Dry Ears Spray to each ear. This application helps remove the water to prevent the onset of swimmer's ear.
